Short Bio

Stefanie Nowak did her studies in applied computer science with minor media science at the University of Siegen in Germany from 2000 to 2006 and finished with a Diplom in computer science.

During her Diploma thesis, she worked at the Fraunhofer Institute for Computer Graphics Research (IGD) in Darmstadt. There she wrote her thesis about the visualization of the left ventricular myocardial function and the modelling of cardiac deformations in 2005/2006. Since 2006 , she has worked at the IGD as a staff member and switched to the Fraunhofer Institute for Digital Media Technology (IDMT) in Ilmenau, Germany, in 2007 as PHD student.

Her current research interests focus on the automated extraction of semantic information from visual media and the combination of this information with knowledge structures.

A special focus lies on the evaluation of multimedia analysis algorithms and the initiative in the ImageCLEF evaluation forum (http://www.imageclef.org/2009/PhotoAnnotation).
